The major soccer leagues in Europe are hurtling toward the end of the season. A lot is left to play for around the continent for the top clubs: European qualification, relegation survival, and European qualification are all up for grabs down the stretch.
With just a few weeks left on the soccer domestic calendar, let’s look at some elite soccer predictions for March 31.
Sunday, March 31
Liverpool vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Liverpool hosts Tottenham Hotspur in the game of the weekend in the Premier League. The Reds go into the weekend two points ahead of second-place Manchester City. By the time Liverpool and Tottenham kickoff, however, Manchester City should be back in first place.
Liverpool must win to keep pace with Manchester City and to keep hopes of a first league title since 1989-90 alive.
Spurs are winless in their last four matches with three of those ending in losses. Mauricio Pochettino’s team has lost form. A lack of depth, injuries and fatigue that have hurt Tottenham in recent weeks. Despite just having an international break, the team’s big stars Dele Alli, Harry Kane, and Christian Eriksen were all on national team duty for their respective nations and could return fatigued.
Liverpool is undefeated at home. The Reds have conceded just nine goals at Anfield, the Premier League’s lowest tally. Liverpool has not lost at home in 36 straight games. This should be a low-scoring game with few chances for either team and not a 3-0 win for Liverpool as predicted. Liverpool is in good form at Anfield and that should be the deciding factor in the game.
Real Madrid vs. Huesa
There are no such things as sure things in sports. But Real Madrid against Huesca should be a sure thing. Real Madrid is a far more talented team than Huesca. The latter is the last placed team in La Liga and likely to be relegated.
Real Madrid re-appointed Zinedine Zidane as manager on March 11th and the impact has been immediate. Real Madrid has won back to back games under Zidane.
Real Madrid won the teams’ previous fixture this term, 1-0. This game should see over 2.5 goals as Zidane’s Real Madrid is far better than the one that beat Huesca previously. This game won’t be quite as low scoring as predicted.
Winner: Real Madrid
Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Stuttgart
Eintracht Frankfurt boasts the Bundesliga third best attack with 51 goals. The team’s strikers Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller have combined for 29 goals. It isn’t just about scoring goals at Frankfurt as the team has conceded the fourth fewest (30) in Germany’s top-flight.
Stuttgart is third from bottom in the Bundesliga and fighting relegation. The team has conceded the second-most goals this season (56) while scoring the third fewest (26). Stuttgart has won just once on their travels this season.
Frankfurt defeated Stuttgart 3-0 earlier this season. Five of the teams’ last six games have ended in over 2.5 goals. Expect goals to fly in but only for Frankfurt.
Winner: Eintracht Frankfurt
