The second half of the season is well underway and the top teams are emerging and pulling away. With several key matchups this weekend, the Nationals and Braves in the NL East highlight the list.
Washington Nationals versus Atlanta Braves
The top two teams in the NL East face-off in Atlanta. The Nationals are 8-2 over their last game and coming off a loss. They are “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator and +22 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Atlanta Is on a five-game winning streak, “burning hot” and +23 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Both teams are playing in low scoring games, so best to bet the “under”. Of the scheduled starting pitchers, Patrick Corbin is the best bet for the Nationals at +408 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator, while Anibal Sanchez is well in the red at -2358. Both Mike Soroka and Max Fried are solid bets for the Braves, both around +800. The Braves should take two of three in this series to increase their wide margin in the division.
Milwaukee Brewers versus Arizona Diamondbacks
Both teams enter play hovering around the .500 mark. Milwaukee is just 2-8 over their last ten, “ice cold down” and +12 on the Power Ranking Indicator. Arizona is 5-5 over their last ten, +16 and “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Best to avoid the over/under bet in this series as teams are trending on both sides of the line. Milwaukee has not been a stable team according to the Team Volatility Oscillator, so take their favorite/underdog status lightly when considering the bet. Of the scheduled starting pitchers, Brandon Woodruff is the top bet for the Brewers at +750 profit, while Zack Greinke is well into the green at +2937. Arizona should get back on track against a floundering Milwaukee team. Look for two games to one series win for the Diamondbacks.
Los Angeles Angels versus Seattle Mariners
The fourth and fifth place teams in the AL West play this weekend in Seattle. The Angels are playing well lately, winner of their last four. They are “burning hot” and +20 on the Power Ranking Indicator. The Mariners have dropped their last four with “dead” status and +2 on the Power Ranking Indicator. According to the Totals Predictor, it’s best to avoid the “over/under” in games this series. Mike Leake of the Mariners is the worst bet for the weekend, coming in at -1106 on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. While none of the scheduled starters for Los Angeles have been extremely profitable, Jose Suarez is a solid bet for Friday. Los Angeles should be able to win this series on the road, but a sweep is unlikely.
New York Mets versus San Francisco Giants
The Giants enter having won eight of their last ten and are in a four-team bunch well back of the Dodgers in the NL West. The Mets are 5-5 over their last ten, fourth in the NL East. San Francisco holds a +9 to +5 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Mets are “burning hot” versus “average up” for the Giants. Both teams have been playing in high scoring games, so best bet is the “over”. Noah Syndergaard is the best bet on the mound for the Mets this weekend at +413 profit, while Jacob deGrom is the worst at -835. Only Tyler Beede for the Giants on Friday is a solid bet, but avoid betting on either of the Giants Saturday and Sunday starters. Look for the Mets to come away with a series win.
Chicago White Sox versus Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays look to continue their pursuit of the Yankees in the AL East as they take on the White Sox. Tampa Bay has a +26 to +6 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator at “burning hot” versus “dead” status on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are relatively stable, so considering the favorite/underdog status is a wise choice. Best to avoid the over/under since teams are trending on opposite sides of the line. Of the scheduled starting pitchers, only the White Sox Reynaldo Lopez is in the red on the Pitcher Profit Oscillator. There is little to indicate that the White Sox can compete in this series. The Rays will win and could sweep.
