At the quarter point of the NHL season and divisional and conference races are heating up. Several games are scheduled for Saturday, November 23, with Edmonton versus Vegas topping the list.
Edmonton Oilers versus Vegas Golden Knights
The Oilers enter first in the Pacific Division with a 14-6-3 record and 7-4-1 on the road. Vegas is third in the division at 11-6-3 and 6-4-2 at home. Edmonton holds a +22 to +11 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average down” versus “dead up” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Both teams are playing in high scoring games in general, so betting the “over” is a safe play. The Oilers have been only moderately stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator, so consider their favorite/underdog status lightly. In this first meeting of the season between the teams, look for the Oilers to come out on top.
Arizona Coyotes versus Los Angeles Kings
Arizona is 13-7-2 for the season and 7-3-2 on the road, second in the Pacific Division. They face the Kings, who are bringing up the rear in the division with a record of 8-12-1 and 6-4 at home. Arizona won the first meeting between the teams, 3-0 on November 18. They hold a +25 to +9 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. Los Angeles is “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Neither team has been scoring at a high pace, so betting the “under” is a good play. Look for the Kings to battle, but the Coyotes will have too much and win by a goal, perhaps in overtime.
New York Rangers versus Montreal Canadiens
In seventh place in the Metropolitan Division, the New York Rangers take their 8-8-2 record into Montreal to face the 11-6-4 Canadiens. Montreal is third in the Atlantic Division and is 6-3-1 at home. The Canadiens have a +23 to +7 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “average down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. According to the Totals Predictor, it’s best to avoid playing the “over/under” in this one with the teams trending on opposite sides of the line. Montreal has been unstable, at -2 on the Team Volatility Oscillator. Nevertheless, they have a considerably better team and should come away with a home victory.
Florida Panthers versus Carolina Hurricanes
Florida heads to Carolina with an 11-5-5 record, second in the Atlantic Division. The Hurricanes are 7-3 at home and 13-7-1, third in the Metropolitan Division. Carolina won the first meeting between the teams this year by a 6-3 score on the road. Florida has a +24 to +20 edge on the Power Ranking Indicator, while the Panthers are “burning hot” versus “average”. Look for a high scoring game, so betting “over” is a good play. The Hurricanes have been performing more consistently with their favorite/underdog status. They will take care of business at home and win by a couple of goals.
Toronto Maple Leafs versus Colorado Avalanche
Toronto has struggled to a 9-10-4 start and 3-7 on the road, fifth in the Atlantic Division. They face an Avalanche team that is second in the Central Division with a 13-6-2 record. According to the Totals Predictor, betting the over is a good play in this matchup. Colorado has a huge +26 to +6 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average up” versus “dead” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Maple Leafs have been more much stable according to the Team Volatility Oscillator. Toronto will eventually get back on track, but it won’t be in this one. Pick the Avalanche for the win.
